A lot of new buzz has emerged lately about Busch Gardens Tampa building a new roller coaster. The biggest news floating around is that a few survey balloons appeared over the park three weeks ago, along the edge of the Serengeti Plain. We can confirm that this indeed did happen as staff member viewed the three balloons. I have been trying to investigate what the balloons were for, but have not discovered why yet.
I do not know what the balloons were being used for in this particular case, but they are often used in construction surveys to see how visible something is in the sky from different distances. Something that would reach into the sky like that, you would assume, would be a roller coaster. I do think the next attraction we will see at the park is going to be a new roller coaster since it has already been four years since SheiKra was built and the past two additions have been for aimed at children.
So if Busch Gardens is going to build a new roller coaster, when are we likely to be able to ride it? Obviously, the new attraction in 2010 is the Sesame Street Safari. If there is to be a new roller coaster for 2011, I expect we should start to see signs of activity (ie construction permits, land clearing) sometime around or after spring next year. We first began to see signs of SheiKra in April 2004, for reference. If the attraction is slated for 2012, 2013, or beyond, the same time frame applies. If any new details emerge, I will let you know.
